The Lahore High Court (LHC) yesterday sought a technical compliance report from Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) by January 14 regarding its orders for suspension of notification for tax on incoming international calls and subsequent steps under it.
The single bench comprising Justice Ijaz ul Ahsan passed the orders on a petition filed by Brain Telecommunications through counsel Barrister Umar.
Earlier, the petitioner’s counsel filing a rejoinder informed the court that its order dated October 25, 2012 regarding suspension of notification for tax on incoming international calls had not been complied with. He contended that despite court directions, same rates were being charged.
He further pointed out that LDI operators had also not resumed their operation. He pleaded the court to seek a compliance report from the PTA officials.
However, federation’s counsel said the policy was framed as per law and it aimed to increase revenue.
The court after hearing arguments sought a detailed compliance report from PTA by January 14.
The petitioner, in his petition, submitted that the recent tax increase was imposed by PTCL and others under International Clearing House Agreement (ICHA).
He pointed out that the step was taken on a Ministry of Information Technology’s policy directive.
He contended that the agreement was anti-competitive as it fix prices and develop quota system. He pleaded the court to set aside the notification as it violates many provisions of competitive law.
It is pertinent to mention that the government had already withdrawn notification for tax increase on incoming international calls

just create a overseas pakistani bank, give a legal cover to our foreign exchange and pay just ruppees to our families and buy all big institutions like PIA-STEEL-OIL-GAS-COAL-GOLD AND AGRI PRODUCTION – PRESERVATION RESOURCES.
I am sure that these selfmade polititions would be big ZERO and they would be again begging you for help.
